Sustainability

Five decades of island hospitality have taught us that true luxury is inseparable from the deep care for the natural world.

A gentle coexistence with marine life.

SUSTAINABILITY, BUILT INTO ISLAND LIFE

On an island, sustainability must be part of every operation. It lives in how energy is used, how water is managed, how waste is reduced, and how reefs are protected.

Across our destinations, practical systems and meaningful initiatives help us reduce our carbon footprint, minimise water use, recycle where possible, and support coral restoration.

BEAUTY REQUIRES MAINTENANCE

Every stay depends on more than what guests see. Behind the natural beauty of each island are daily choices that respect local limits – managing resources carefully, reducing waste, and working together to protect the shores we share.

PROTECTING THE CORAL REEF

Our resident marine biologists care for the coral systems surrounding our islands, leading conservation programmes that include active coral planting, reef monitoring, marine education and guest awareness across our resorts.

Long-term reef health depends on steady, specialist attention. Through restoration work and careful observation, we help fragile marine ecosystems build resilience, support biodiversity and remain vibrant for the future.

Reef restoration requires continuous,
daily effort.

HOW GUESTS CAN GET INVOLVED

Our marine programmes give guests practical ways to support reef conservation – offering hands-on experiences that directly protect the delicate ecosystems surrounding our islands.

Programme one

Underwater ambassadors

Many of our destinations are a dream come true for divers and snorkellers. Our teams guide you through the water, sharing practical tips to ensure your exploration respects the sea.

Simple guidance helps guests move through the reef with confidence, reducing disturbance to coral habitats and the marine species that depend on them.

A number of our destinations provide marine talks as well as lab visits, so guests are able to see first-hand what we are doing to support the life around us.

Programme one

New coral groves

Coral forms the vital foundation of our underwater landscape. Guests can explore our coral gardens, learn how corals live and participate in our coral growth programme.

Continue caring for coral beyond your stay by sponsoring your own coral frame. Follow its journey as it is planted, nurtured and transplanted to the seabed.

HIGHLIGHTED PROJECTS

PLANT THE GIFT OF LIFE

Coral grows slowly, but its impact is extraordinary. By planting coral, guests help support reef habitats and contribute to the future health of the ocean.

CORAL SPONSORSHIP

Guests can sponsor a coral frame and follow its progress beyond their stay, with updates that show how their contribution continues to grow.

Programme THREE

GLOBAL CERTIFICATION

Every destination holds either Green Globe or Travelife certification, recognising our ongoing commitment to responsible operations, environmental stewardship and community wellbeing. It is one way we ensure our actions support the long-term vitality of the places we inhabit.

OUR COMMITMENTS

recycling water

Water is precious in island environments. Across our properties, we reduce demand through smarter systems, careful monitoring, and reuse wherever operations allow.

SMART DESIGN

Our spaces are designed with long-term efficiency in mind, from responsible materials to energy-conscious systems that support lower-impact stays.

SUSTAINABLE DINING

Dining is one of our most immediate ways to act responsibly. Local ingredients, kitchen gardens, and thoughtful waste reduction help us serve with greater care for place.

EVERYDAY RESPONSIBILITY

ECO CENTRE

Founded at Kuramathi in 1999 following extreme coral bleaching, this dedicated hub anchors reef education, active conservation programmes, and a deeper understanding of fragile marine ecosystems.

Local artists

We partner with regional artists, makers, and cultural voices to keep island heritage visible. This collaboration creates dedicated spaces for authentic Maldivian creativity to be beautifully shared.

Hydroponic gardenS

Island-grown herbs, salads, and fresh produce champion our responsible dining philosophy. This internal production reduces reliance on imports, bringing natural local freshness straight to the kitchens.
